Well, our cats didn't grab it and drag it around, and it seems to have enough weight to keep them from doing this. So far they are into it, but thankfully there's a spare feather rod because they attack it and chew on it like nobody's business. The remote works fine and is a 'start-stop' toggle sort of thing, so don't expect to control how the thing twitches. When active, the twitching seems almost random, and goes back and forth so the cord doesn't stay wrapped up on itself for long. I have to admit, it seems like an intelligently designed device. You will need to go out and buy 3 AA batteries to put in the base, but the remote comes with its own 'stumpy-style' battery, thankfully.
Bought this action toy for my two çats last Christmas. They just love it and over the year they have not grown bored with it. It peaks their hunting instinct. It will circle one way, then stop and jump around. The cats can't figure out what to expect from it next. They go after it only to have it stop and then start to flip every which way. Of coarse this drives them crazy. We get a lot of hours of enjoyment and much laughs just watching the cats at play.
My cats are not kittens anymore. I find that if I play with an older cat they will continue to keep playing much like they did when they were younger. This action toy is the best one I've every bought for my cats. It has managed to last the year without falling apart. I mean they grab the feathered part in their mouth or will put their paw on it ( if they can get it) and try to hold it down. So it gets rough use from my two vicious kittys.
I'd recommend this toy to any one who wants to keep their cats happy and entertained.

You don't have full control of the rod as you may think. You push on he remote and it just flutters randomly, and sometimes when you push it it doesn't even spin at all.
