Our Pets Interactive Cat Toy Play-N-Squeak Tail Spin

I saw this toy on a Good Morning America the week of Christmas referred to as a cat toy that was considered to be in the best of its class or well something like that. I have two cats with two very different interest points, so I was not sure that it was going to work for both of them, especially since in my experiences, previous cat toy purchases have been greeted differently by each of them. I was just so pleased to see that when I took it out of the box and installed the appropriate batteries, BOTH of my cats were hooked. It is a very clever toy with the little cat tail whipping in and out of both the front and the back, in cycles. The operation of this cat toy is nice and simple. After pressing the button the mouse tail whips for several minutes. I don't recall if the box describes an exact length of time I just know its long enough to keep them there and interested and not long enough to be an annoyance to either me or them. The mouse pictured by the way is clearly meant more for the owners eye pleasure and not the cats since it really doesn't do anything per se except for make a "squeaky" mouse sound when the unit is shaken. Neither of the cats seem to care that it makes this squeaky sound. The mouse the uselessness of it even is the only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating. I would love to see the toy re-done at some point with the mouse having some cat purposeful reasoning to be there. When all is said and done its now been in the house for a few weeks which is often the point at which my cats completely lose interest. I just don't see that happening with this toy because even if they are sound asleep anywhere in the house as soon as they hear the sound of the whipping mouse tail they are there. And long after the tail whipping stops they remain there "waiting" to get it. Who could ask for much more from a cat toy.

Let me start by saying that my cat LOVED this toy, however, the quality of the toy is subpar. I purchased one for my 8 pound cat and within a day the tail no longer spun (even after replacing the batteries). The replacement lasted a few more day than the first but still had the same problem. In addition the tail seems to get wrapped around the spinning mechanism and would spin unless it was pulled out. A real disappointment not just for me but my cat as well.

My kitties love the tail randomly moving around. They don't really pay attention to the squeeky mouse inside but hey if they are actually playing with something I buy instead of a free box or piece of crumbled paper on the floor then I must of chosen the right toy.

I keep trying to find the perfect toy to entertain my active cat so I can have time to myself without feeling guilty because my "kid" wants to play. This comes close to fitting the bill. We've had it for two weeks now and he is still fascinated by both the whipping tail and the squeaky mouse inside the stump. The problem is (and this may just be with the one I got) when set upright, with the "scratching pad" on top yeah, right, if he even bothered with it, it might have room for one of his paws! the tail assembly hangs down too low and drags along the bottom, resulting in the tail getting stuck or barely moving. It took me a while to figure this out. I solved it by placing the toy upside down. This allows the tail mechanism to move without scraping the bottom and it whips around wildly, much to my cat's excitement. But it's not as stable and he knocks it over very easily, which means I have to supervise and keep picking it up for him. It's also harder for him to get at the mouse. I'm not sure if I just got a dud, but I didn't figure it out in time to return it for a new one. In addition, this thing is WAY overpriced I couldn't believe how small it was when I took it out of the box. Add that to it's not working the way it's supposed to and I feel pretty ripped off. But it does entertain the kitty, and I guess that's the important thing.

My cats love this toy. It is, however, a toy you must supervise their play with so they don't tip it over or rip out the little "tail". Interest is maintained for about 10 minutes or so, then the cats lose interest. After several days of once a day play sessions I usually put the toy away for a few days and their interest is renewed once again when I bring it back out.

For interest from the cats, I would have rated it 5 stars. However, the first toy I received didn't work (possible faulty switch) and the second one's mouse squeaked constantly once I removed the little plastic battery protector. I gave it a 4 because of my experience with the quality of the product itself.
