Petstages Occupi Treat Dog Toy

Petstages Occupi Treat Dog Toy, LargeOur small dog (part wiener dog and part small poodle) has a very frustrating problem where she compulsively licks and chomps at the air like she can't quit. She was miserable and it was very irritating to us humans as well. I read on forums to buy a toy like the Occupi or Kong toy so they have something to do. I bought one like this item but the Occupi small dark blue cone shaped. I stuffed it with cat food in the narrow end and wedged in a large piece of dog food at the end to keep it all from coming out. The first night she chewed it for at least 4 hours straight and fell asleep! I wish I would have discovered this a couple of years ago!! I plan to also buy the Kong small bone which has a opening on each end to hide treats in.. Note that both brands come in different sizes and rubber density.

Our dog LOVED this toy; I cannot stress this enough. He loved the challenge of getting the treats out, and it was a great distraction for him while we were blow-drying him after his baths (which is why we got it). But our dog is also a very strong chewer, and he soon had little bits of blue rubber flaking out all over everywhere (it came out in his poo, of course).

As much as we loved this toy, I just can't feel comfortable essentially feeding our dog blue rubber, and I would certainly never have left him alone with it, for fear he would have simply devoured the entire thing along with the treat stick. In other words, it really doesn't fulfill its purpose, and I can't recommend it.

I usually buy the Kong toys for our 4 dogs, but thought the different shape of this one would interest them. It did, for about 10 minutes. This toy started falling apart so quickly I didn't even have all the Christmas shopping out of the car and inside before it was in small chunks all over my living room. Very disappointing.

I have a 6 month old miniature poodle. Yes, she has her adult teeth and is a determined chewer, but she is not a pit bull. This toy (small version she is only 14 lb) lasted less than 10 minutes before she tore chunks off it. She loved it and greatly protested its confiscation, but I didn't feel it was safe for her to eat big hunks of rubber. She did love it, which is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1, but it was too expensive for 5 minutes of fun. She has also taken chunks out of ordinary nylabones but so far has failed to dent her puppy kongs, even with adult teeth.

Ret loves tearing it apart, anyway... Another toy to add to the list of not so durable toys. At least he kindly spit out most of the chunks.
