Update 3/15/2010: The clipper is still working I have dropped it a few times, and generally have not taken very good care of it, and it still works great! I bought extra blades and I send them away to be sharpened when I feel like they're getting dull. If this one dies, I'll definitely buy another one!
3/8/2013 clipper is still running strong! This is a five star product which is great for a one-star-just-learning groomer. I have a standard poodle, and decided it was time for me to learn to groom her myself when her haircuts cost me twice what I'd pay for my own! It doesn't stay cool for as long as I'd hoped, but long enough for me to get a lot done. This product has made a daunting task much less so, it's quiet so my dog stays relatively calm and she actually looks okay. A few more times, and I may go pro! Very satisfied.

I did a lot of research before I bought this product on which clipper to get for my new cocker spaniel puppy. I thought that the Oster A5 turbo and the Andis were the only way to go as far as high end pet clippers are concerned. Well after talking to the breeder that I purchased my puppy from, she recommended that I look into getting the Arco clippers. I was a bit skeptical about it being battery powered and the fact that it was 33% cheaper (compared to the Oster and Andis), but you can't judge these clippers by the price. The advantage of being cordless was a huge plus. It saved a lot of cleanup time by taking him outside to trim him instead of getting my bathroom covered in hair. Two batteries that last around an hour a piece are a plus too (although i'm not sure were to get new ones if they wear out). The clipper comes with a 5 position adjustable blade and 4 combs so you have many different options when choosing what style and length that you want to go with. On the Oster and Andis you have to buy separate blades to achieve the same effect. I've even been using them to cut my hair and since there a lot more powerful than my regular hair clippers they work like a charm. My dog sure appreciates them over my regular hair clippers since they cut through the hair like a hot knife through butter. They stay cool and are really quiet also so the noise doesn't scare him too much. In the end, even though i've never tried the Oster and Andis, I would still highly recommend these clippers to anyone.I have owned the 8786-451A ARCO SE for about a year. I groom my 2 standard poodles about every 5 weeks using this clipper to clip the face, feet and sanitary area. I was very pleased at the low noise, vibration, and the long run time. I thought I had found the perfect clipper. That was until my last use. I started out working on the first poodles face. Once I got to the neck area, my clippers started chattering. I thought that maybe I hadn't dried her enough so I stopped and sprayed the blade with cooling spray, I wiped the clippers off and went back to work. I turned the clippers on and after about a minute the same thing happened again. The clippers started chattering again only this time much louder. I stopped and sprayed the blade again. It didn't really have time to get clogged up but I cleaned it anyway. When I turned the clippers on this time, it ran for about 10 seconds and the blade fell off along with some debris. At first when I looked at the case I thought the blade clip had broken but then I noticed there was only one screw in place and the plastic boss was cracked in several places. The spot where the other screw was supposed to be was just a hole in the housing and there was a little pile of plastic chips and the screw was laying next the motor shaft. My first impression after seeing why my clippers failed was more of a question than if my clippers could be fixed. My question is "Why would Wahl approve such a flimsy design?" Makes you think twice before spending your money. These clippers were expensive when compared to other cordless models but I too was lured by good reviews and the Wahl reputation. I have contacted Wahl about my clippers and have not heard back from them yet. I will let you know the outcome. Would I recommend this clipper to anyone else? I don't think so. I rated the clippers 2 stars because the healthy performance is exceptional 5 star but durability gets -5 stars. I feel jipped. I thought this clipper would be robust enough to keep up with my A5's.************************UPDATE******************************UPDATE***********************************UPDATE***************************
When I contacted Wahl throught their website I really wasn't expecting much from them. I explained my use as I did in my review and I was pleasantly surprised that I had a reply the very next day. The person who contacted me was understanding of my situation and also felt I should have received more service from my clippers. She has authorized the return of my clippers for a one time replacement or repair at their option at no cost. I feel that this is a very generous offer from Wahl since I was about to toss this pair in the trash. I will use the replacements until they fail. Hopefully I will get better service. I thought about taking some JB Weld and reinforcing the screw bosses so they don't crack. There seems to be alot of room in the shell. I don't understand why Wahl didn't just use a metal case instead of plastic. I love these clippers I just wish they would last longer. The saga continues..I'll let you know how pair #2 works out.
OK here is my final update. I received my replacement clippers and I performed the JB weld modification. It was very easy to build up the area around the screw bosses. While I don't recommend you void your warranty by doing the same on a new set, but I will say that by doing so you will probably limit the life to motor failure and not the case. I applied the JB weld in stages with a cotton swab. JB weld is self leveling to you can mix up small ammounts and build up slowly over a few days. I really don't expect to have anymore trouble with screw bosses. After the modification, I upgrade my rating to 4 stars. The clippers work great. I love the 2 batteries. The clipper holder stand/battery charger is very convenient. My only complaint would be the clipper guides are flimsy. They pop off easily. I am overall very happy with this purchase.
