We bought this ten months ago, and my two cats tore into it the minute I assembled it. After several months the cardboard began to be a little too clawed up, so I simply flipped it over and they have had at that for the last several months. When upside down, it's not really at the right angle for laying on, but it didn't change it's purpose. My cat spends a large portion of her life on this hammock, which happens to be placed in front of a heating vent. She loves to scratch the cardboard, but mostly she sits, washes, and then sleeps on the hammock. I need to buy three more, for her other favorite heating vents. I don't know what we're going to do in the summer when cool air blows out of the vents!

When I first got this I kept trying to put it together and thought mine was cut wrong. I am really good with mechanical reasoning but this had me stumped until suddenly I flipped it somehow and bam it slid together perfectly. I had a cat that got the cardboard scratches right off the bat. The three cats I have now are a little slower with it. It may take several weeks for your cat to get it. I put the scratchier in 3 different spots in the house. I showered it with cat nip. Put treats on it pretended to scratch it myself and put a toy on it. I guess they just had to get used it. You know cats sometimes they don't take to something new in their environment for awhile. All this only took a few minutes of my time but finally my cats got it. Then they had to figure out they need to be on it to used it. Now they use the heck out of it and love to nap on it. I wish I had gotten this before they ruined my $600 leather chaise lounge. I think $20 it well worth it if it saves thousands of dollars of nice furniture from pulls and scratches.

My husband found this originally at Costco for around $5-$10, two years ago. He's now kicking himself why he didn't pick up more than the one. Our big girl initially took to it right away, but when we brought her little brother home, he adopted it, so she doesn't use it anymore. But since he was a tiny kitten, this has been his hangout. He scratches on it, stretches, then takes a nap on it. In our photo, you may notice that it's "upside down". We did that deliberately, because it didn't seem large enough for 18 lb JJ. I will say that Sly is rather a small cat, so weight hasn't been a problem. We recently had to glue back on one of the decorative trim pieces, as it had begun to separate, but other than that, this has been a star no matter where it's located. I never wind up using the catnip that companies include with their cat toys, because I find that if the cats are interested, they'll stay interested, and I've never added any catnip to this product, either.

The actual product is great. Looks awesome and my cat gets a ton of scratching out of it. But she weighs almost 17lbs and she has already broken 2 of these guys. But I won't stop buying these, she's just on a stricter diet.
