Ethical 5786 Seek-A-Treat Slide N Find Dispensing Puzzle

Ethical 5786 Seek-A-Treat Slide N Find Dispensing PuzzleThis is the starter puzzle i bought for our two havanese. I was surprised that they worked it out so quickly, given that they hadn't done one before, so probably not recommended for a more advanced dog. However, they do not seem to tire of it. it is well made, robust and easy to wipe down, no complaints, good starter puzzle.

After reading several reviews for different puzzle games I decided to try this one, not knowing if my dog would be able to figure it out or even enjoy it. It is quite simple but he enjoys it and gets really excited everytime I get it out so I'm pleased. The only removeable parts are big wooden block type pieces (2) and the first few times he just walked away carrying that so I believe a bigger dog or a dog left alone with this toy would quickly destroy those 2 parts. Definitely a toy you should supervise your dog using, but very cool to watch them figure out.

We have five dogs, and I had been curious as to what they would think and if they would or could master puzzle games. So when I began researching the games at Amazon and found three Ethical puzzles for $53 and some change, I ordered them. We quickly opened the Discovery Wheel, as well as the Seek-A-Treat puzzle. The puzzle pieces to the Discovery Wheel were inset a little tighter, thus making it a little more of a challenge for our dogs to maneuver; however, I was still very surprised at how quickly they mastered it. We have a variety of dogs, all mixed breed pets ranging from 21 to 80 pounds in size. All were excited to find the treats, and some used their paws while others used their noses to uncover the treats. In regards to the Ethical 5786 Seek-A-Treat puzzle, our 80 lb. Collie-German Shepherd mix quickly used his mouth to pick up one of the knobs, but wasn't as interested in the kibble hidden underneath as he was with the knob itself: for Shane, the knob was a new toy to chew on! The smaller dogs had no problems in using their paws to knock the knob, or peg, out of its slot to show the kibble hidden below. My main problem with the Seek-A-Treat puzzle, however, was the fact that the puzzle pieces were so loose in the puzzle that there was no real fun in hiding treats from the dogs; it was more difficult getting the pieces to stay in place long enough to halfway hide the kibble from our pets. NOTE: Because our pets mastered the other two so quickly, we did not even open the Shuffle Bone puzzle.

While I do not regret ordering the puzzles, I do regret getting all three because all were similarly made and posed no greater challenge to our pets. Maybe we just have five genius dogs!

This toy is very well constructed, but it does not provide much of a challenge. It could be improved by making the disks harder to move (by making the fit tighter). The little knobs that the dog is supposed to knock over to get to the treat would also need to have a tighter fit in order to make it more difficult. Maybe this toy is a challenge for stupid dogs.

I have a 4 year old Jack Russell Terrier. This is the first puzzle I have bought for her and she LOVES it. It was pretty easy for her to figure out, but she gets excited to EVERY time I bring it out and will gladly do it over and over again.

The puzzle is made of sturdy wood. There are some tiny scratch marks from her claws, but no big deal. I would definitely recommend this for a first puzzle for your pooch.
