Hartz Chirp n Chase Cat Toy

Our cat, like many other beloved pets, is spoiled with toys and treats galore. I've never seen him enjoy a toy better than the Chirp 'n Chase. The realistic bird chirps drive him crazy. After catching the bird at the end of its launch (I say launch because the bird is propelled by the fling of a rubber band that only vaguely resembles actual flight) he continues to flip the bird in the air and carries it around in his mouth. All the while the little bird continues to chirp, driving him even crazier. The chirping is triggered by motion, i.e. when it's flung through the air. The rubber band used to propel the bird is thick, not flimsy, and strong. The bird's feathers are a nice touch. Our cat loves to lick them. This product is worth purchasing, especially if you own a cat who primarily resides in the house, as our cat does, and rarely goes out.

From the moment I released this bird from it's cardboard bonds, my kitty went crazy for it. He plays with it CONSTANTLY. He hunts it, he hides it in my bed, he carries it around, he flips and tumbles over itthe list goes on. The chirp is LOUD but not annoying, but I do have to put it away at night before I go to sleep or the volume of the chirping will wake me up. Also, the fuzzy little black wing feathers will be all over your rug in 2 days but the tail feathers and body will hold up just fine, so after an initial small mess you're golden. I am going to order a few more of these JUST IN CASE however. Mowgli plays with it so hard that I can't imagine even a sturdy toy can last forever.

My kitten took to this bird like she was on crack! The chirping sound is really loud and scared her at first, but then she couldn't stop playing with it and carried it around in her mouth. She was so obsessed with it, she growled at my other cat and wouldn't let him play with it.

The only con is the chirping. If your cat loves it as much as mine does, you'll have to hide it at night if you want any sleep.

This is the cutest cat toy. Last night I awoke to hear a bird chirping on and off... when I got up to see what it was, it was my Kit Kat happily playing with this toy! He LOVES it! The noise is a little on the loud side, but if it makes my kitties happy... what do I care?!

We bought two of these birds for our kitty cats. I think Hartz could have done better though.

The look is great like a mini-pheasant, which immediately grabbed both cats' attention.

The chirp is very loud. I SAID, THE CHIRP IS VERY LOUD! At least ours were! Yikes sort of like a bird with a megaphone! It got on my nerves, but didn't seem to bother the cats that I could tell. (They might have been wishing for ear plugs, but who knows.) Annoyance factor for me was slightly less than the battery-operated chimp with the clapping cymbals (but I can take the batteries out of the chimp).

Now the downside the interest lasts about as long as it is making noise.

It makes noise upon impact with something, and it takes a fairly hard impact to get it chirping. Slapping against your hand is the best way, or slapping it on a hard surface. However, unless your cats are different than the two we have, the cats will not be able to turn on the chirping themselves. You know how cats like to grab and toss things like this type of toy into the air? You'd think the mechanism would have been made sensitive enough to turn on when it hit the floor. Not so the cats are not strong enough to turn this bird's sound on. It will take YOUR interaction.

Now, I love to play with the cats and don't have a problem with it. However, I thought this would be a cute toy to keep them busy while I was on the computer. Instead, it was either brought back to me to slap/throw it again (yes, one of our cats acts like a dog and retrieves toys), or was left on the floor as soon as it stopped chirping. They did carry them around the first day or two, but that novelty wore off uber fast. Right now, I think one is laying dormant under our china closet, and I don't know where Bird 2 is. The cats don't really care either. They lost interest right away.

If Hartz revamps these and makes the chirp-triggering mechanism more sensitive, then this toy would be a winner. You can't deny it looks great. But, the cats got as bored as I did, because the noise is part of the appeal. It goes silent, then it is no longer a prize to be obtained. So, I think you can do better than this toy for your favorite kitty.
