When the leash gets wet it becomes worse, we have to dry it out to get the leash back in the handle, too bad as I like the feel and it appears well made, just poorly engineered.I have a miniature poodle. NOT a big dog, right? I have the large Power Walker, figured it'd hold up longer than the cheapo brand retractable leash we were finally retiring after about 7 years. Nope. This thing lasted about 6 months, and now won't retract. I tried to take it apart to fix it, but even that isn't cooperating with me. For the money these things cost, you'd expect it to last a bit longer. Do yourself a favor and get the store brand--that way, if it only lasts a few months (which it probably won't--it'll probably last years) you won't have lost buckets of cash on it.

I have tried a number of retractable leads and while the Power Walker is pricey, I keep coming back to it. I have tried store brands and the Flexi brand, neither of which worked as well as the Power Walker. I have a standard poodle that is quite high energy and can really bolt, which has resulted in an over-extension of the leash, rendering it useless. HOWEVER, when I took it back to the pet store, it was replaced with a new lead on the spot. And it is the manufacturer that guarantees it, not the store. The lock mechanism is much easier to operate than that of the other brands and the handle is ergonomically comfortable. I will DEFINITELY buy this again.Read Best Reviews of Power Walker Retractable Dog Leash Here
We received this retractable leash as a gift and we may be real lucky but it has lasted over 3 years. We walk our male golden retriever almost daily, from puppy to 85 lb adult using this leash exclusively. I like that it has a sturdy belt that retracts smoothly. The handle is comfortable to hold, not bulky, and the switch is easy to maneuver. He has lunged a few times while attached to it and it has held up. Comparatively, we've bought two other brands of retractable leashes for a second large dog (1-year, 70 lbs) and they didn't last very long. I will be purchasing another Power Walker leash and should've known that Amazon would carry it!Update 3/16/12 Darn, the first Power Walker leash broke today while walking Toby the male retriever. He lunged, jamming the spring mechanism, and we took it apart but couldn't repair it. It would have been 4 years old in May 2012. So sad, but I will be ordering a replacement PW leash. I still would give it 5 stars as we got a lot of use out of it. A second PW leash that was ordered in June 2011 (9 months old now) for our second dog Miki is still going strong, crossing my fingers...I bought this leash for my daughter's new puppy. I bought it for a large dog, since the puppy is a Lab/Rot mix, but the puppy only weighs 30 pounds now. Within two weeks we had to throw this in the trash. The leash itself broke twice. We had to tie it back together. My husband took the handle apart and fixed it twice. This was a waste of our money!
