I'm writing a review because I bought this a month ago, and our cat has gone absolutely bonkers for it. So bonkers, in fact, that he broke the string twice, and one day we came home and the birdie was there, the stick was there with about 3 inches of string left, and all the rest of the string was missing. It's been two weeks since that and he's still fine so I'm not sure what he did with it but it appears that he didn't eat it, at least.We have had plenty of wand toys for our cat and I've never seen him go as crazy for a toy as he did for this one. The birdie spirals in the air sort of like a fishing lure in the water, and he just has a ball. For the price it doesn't bother me too much that it only lasted a month (and now he's even removed all the feathers!) so I am going to order another, but this time we will definitely only let him play with it when supervised, and won't leave it out when we leave the house.
Overall, probably the best toy he's ever had. In fact he still carries around the little red plastic part where the feathers used to attach, still attached to the 3 inches of string and whole wand that is left. It's pretty funny, and pathetic.
I have spent a lot of money for cat toys before, but my indoor cat lost interest mostly after a few seconds. So, she eventually became fat.
This toy is awesome! She plays with it nonstop as long as I make it "fly". She can play with it for hours! You could tell from the video that she was so breathless afterwards.

This simple little thing drives my cat crazy! She loves it. Our dog does, too, but I'm scared he'll tear it up if I try to play with him with it. A gentle dip with the stick and pull up, and this thing flaps, and makes a flapping sound. It's very easy to make it soar horizontally, fly in a circle, glide up vertically and dive. It moves and sounds like a real bird. It's also almost hypnotic to fly it around. Might even appeal to non-pet owners as a tool for relaxation :)I think it's the most fun of any toy she has. As for critics who say it would be easy to build one, I disagree.
The down side is, it's very fragile. I have to be careful to relax the string and take it gently from Anya when she catches it. However, despite many catches and a broken feather, it still works!

The best cat toy, hands down. Get the one piece pole (the pole sold in two pieces sometimes has a tendency to come apart) and buy it with the accessory pack so you can change out the various attachments and find out which ones your cats like best I purchased the fun pack with the peacock feather as I already own a laser (the other option). The attachments are easy to swap as they clip on and off (nice design). My cats actually like all of the attachments and rotating the toys every few weeks is a great way to keep this toy "fresh" for them no question though that the feathered birds are the all time favorite. Feathers being universally popular, they also love the peacock feather and I've already ordered more. This toy is interactive (i.e. for you to play with your pet, not for them to use on their own) and should be put away after each use however the old "carcass" of a beat-up feathered "bird" attachment, "fur thing" or "kitty puff" do make great play toys by themselves and I've had no problems letting the cats play with those unsupervised, but that's me. The tassel (being plastic) has to be supervised carefully and discarded when it gets to ripped up. That being said, my cats love the flash and slidy movements of the tassel almost as much as the bird, with the fur thing being a close third and the kitty puff (despite being made of feathers) definitely in fourth place (but still very much enjoyed!)P.S. For those interested, most universally popular, fun cat toys that I know of:
(1) Da Bird with fun pack (fun pack contains a variety of attachments and one extra toy, either a peacock feather or a laser, your choice),
(2) Da Mouse (only make sure you don't get the defective ones with the wire sticking out the bottom of the mouse and a black bead glued over it some of that batch are still floating around if you get one of those return it as they are not safe),
(3) small 1 to 2 inch soft super bouncy balls and small mylar balls (cheap at most supermarkets or right here on Amazon; not all cats go for these but those that do love them so it is worth testing them out on your feline mylar balls are easy for cats to pick up and very light-weight so fun to bat around, bouncy balls are awesome to chase);
(4) cat tunnel the best one is sold here on Amazon search for "Kitty Play Tunnel" I have posted a review for this;
(5) catnip mice, squeaky mice tons of good ones out there, but would recommend you get at least one that velcros open and shut so you can stuff it with catnip and machine wash. The absolutely best velcro mice I've ever seen were a gift from a friend in the DC area and are sold by Mom's Natural Market there soft, really fat grey mice of nice thick slightly fuzzy thick cotton fabric that velcro open and shut for refilling and last forever. I would suggest doing your best to avoid the those made with toxic commercial dyes or glue on plastic eyes or other platic bits as these are dangerous to cats embroidered eyes and whiskers and soft, short cloth ears and tails are best;
(6) a catnip banana or other long catnip toy that cats can bunny kick, again preferably with a soft plain cotton surface check out the Yeow catnip banana or pollock fish best for very athletic hunters others may be bored by this;
(7) laser pointer or small flashlight with very bright beam like the bouncy balls, not all cats go for these, but those that do love them. The one I have was a gift and I've had it for years and it is still going strong. It is pen style Apollo laser, but I don't know if those are still made. As you probably already know, just be careful not to shine any laser pointer directly into your cat's eyes. If you have concerns, get a small very bright pen-style flashlight instead no worries with those.
(8) cat tree with at least one "condo" (two if you have more than one cat). These tend to be pricey, especially in the stores so you are much better off buying online. The best ones are made with plywood, human-grade carpeting (no loops) and no toxic glues; next best use pressed wood, thick human-grade fabrics, no toxic glues, thick sisal rope. For those on a tight budget, plans for build your own cat trees are available on the web and some of them are quite ingenious I have a friend who made one using two snap-together $15 plastic open shelving units she bought at W*****t or T****t she shortened the legs on one and snapped them together so they shared the same middle legs she had to cut the middle legs to make this work so the shelves stagger for her cats to climb up. They were originally 4 feet high, but thanks to the staggering, she was able to get this quite a bit higher and I know you can buy taller versions of this type of shelving for a little more money. She put mats on some of the shelves and a cat bed on the top and it makes a pretty decent budget cat tree. If you can afford to purchase, New Cat Condos and Amarkat are supposed to be good brands and are sold here on Amazon and at O*******k. I prefer the New Cat Condos, but couldn't find one big enough for all my cats so I am actually in the process of buying an Amarkat and will post a review soon;
(9) peacock feathers I've yet to meet a cat that didn't like these, though I'm sure there are some out there. Actually, any really long feather teaser is probably a good bet, but peacock feathers are inexpensive and pretty much guaranteed to work; and
(10) any fun toy that catches your fancy and makes your cat happy! hey, you know best what works for you and your cat and all cats are different. Still I hope some of these suggestions may be useful for you.

What a great cat toy. This is the one cat toy that is guaranteed to actually get played with. How many toys have you bought over they years that just sit around and never get even a swat? Well, that won't happen with Da-Bird! I have given tons of these to friends for their cats, and have only known one very elderly lady kitty to not be interested in it. But even the fattest, laziest cats I've known will motivate for this toy. You will get some amazing leaps out of your cats. The sound the feathers make when they go through the air, as well as how the birdie "flutters" apparently just can't be resisted. And yes, there are many other feather toys on the market at the stores, but none of those other brands have ever gotten my cats to do a 5 foot twisting leap into the air. My cats will go for this until they are panting. Some of them like to try to walk with it in their mouths to another room to spend more time with their "Catch." We use it every day for 20-30 minutes. The mouse attachment is also a big hit at our house. It is apparently made from deer fur, and my cats also get glazed eyes when they play with it. They even growl sometimes as they carry it around. I try to "walk" the mouse attachment along the floor, and around corners like a real mouse would run, but they jump for it too when I make it fly. As others have noted, you have to keep this toy put up very securely when you are not playing with it with the cats or they will eat it, chew on it, whatever. No one wants their kitty to eat string. Bad news. I have a genius cat that can open closed doors so I actually use a 3 foot poster tube to keep them in after we are done playing and i keep that locked away in a closet. They can be very clever when they set their minds to a task. I also find that I get better jumps from the kitties when I use it one-on-one with them in a room with the other cats shut out. That way they can concentrate on their hunting without distractions and don't have to worry that they are going to land on the other cats when they leap. So we do a group hunt for a while and then take individual turns. I prefer the single pole version. I guess the split pole is good for storing it later, but I like the single pole best. Get this toy for your little fuzzy babies. They will thank you for it. And yes, you will need feather refills at some point.
