My 13 year old tortie, Gracie O'Malley, sustained a serious laceration to front paw after a squabble with one of our younger cats. She required surgery and was sent home with a horrible plastic cone. I asked the vet tech if I could substitute for one of the soft cones and she advised against it, saying she would not recommended this for cats. Wrong wrong wrong! Gracie had to wear a cone for 10-12 days and I dreaded the experience, so after a miserable 24 hours of her having extreme difficulty drinking water, eating food, using her litter box, finding a comfortable sleeping position, she and I were both a wreck. I was grateful that she was sent home with pain meds and while I know they made her woozy, the damnable plastic cone also contributed mightily to her disorientation. She was just not able to move around with any confidence whatsoever. A friend and animal advocate extraordinaire recommended the Comfy Cone and the difference was amazing. I got the extra small, which has a good range of adjustment in terms of neck size. After she easily ate, drank, and took care of business, Gracie went to her favorite round cuddle bed and curled up and took a long nice nap. Rolling it back to allow more direct access to food and water and to administer meds was a snap. When I would unroll it, she did not object. The velcro is stable and even as she began to feel much better and regain full use of the paw, Gracie did not try to remove the Comfy Cone. She's now been wearing it for 8 days and actually seems to like it. Easy to clean it, too. It comes off tomorrow along with her sutures hooray for that but this great product has made recovery much easier on us both highly HIGHLY recommended.
The only thing I didn't like was that I don't think she figured out how to drink with it on. You are able to remove 3 plastic sticks from the cone so that one area of the cone folds down to let your pet eat and drink. The directions say this should be supervised and with dogs that may be possible. But my cat just eats and drinks whenever she wants so I'm not always there to supervise. The problem is that the cone spins and so the folded back area that was at the mouth may be at the back of my cat's head when it's feeding time.
My cat didn't have problems drinking water with another soft cone that folded back all the way around (she looked like a flower!!). The problem with that one was that it wasn't as durable as the Comfy Cone and my cat shredded it after 2 weeks.
I guess you can't get durable cones that can fold all the way around?

This is definitely better than the plastic one you would get from the vet but I was expecting the cone to be a better fabric that was more soft. It feels like there is cushion inside the cone, so that definitely makes it better.This product would do better if the description had the size in cm on it. I just hoped that it would be the right size and it happened that it was. This one is 11cm.

The cone from the vet worked far better than the comfy cone for our kitten. While it was softer, the opaqueness and the narrow range of view of the comfy cone was far too claustrophobic.
