We got our first pad in 2009 and have only now replaced it with a new one. It held up well and has always been a big hit with our female cat, Abby. I can't say this pad is the only reason, but Abby has never used anything else to scratch since she joined our family. We put this one up immediately and she was fascinated by the toy and quickly removed all of the feathers which had to be thrown away. The toy is still in place sans feathers but they served their purpose in drawing her attention to the pad.The second one is now in place and should last for a few more years (sans feathers) when I will certainly get another.

Cat had a similar item and it was well used (looking ragged to be honest.) I attempted to purchase one at the local pet superstore -no such luck. I'm happy I found this at Amazon.
