Petsport Crazer Laser Cat Toy

Although I did not buy this product through Amazon, I am an owner of this item.

I went through 5 different laser pointers before I came across this product and purchased it at a local pet store. The product seems to function by a small internal mirror that is connected to a spring which causes the laser beam point to jiggle around. My cat doesn't care too much for the jiggly laser beam, but the mirror is attached to a switch (small wheel at the head of the unit) that you can conveniently flip toward you, and will allow the beam to stabilize (bypassing the mirror?) and let the product shoot a stable beam point..... and the beam point is one of the brighter and thicker beam points I've run across... which seems to excite my cat more than the others have.

Since a kitten I've trained her on laser pointers by attempting to never let her catch it... and that has resulted in a cat who will now after a little warm-up often run sprints back and forth across our living space after the glowing orb until she is winded. The bright thick dot provided by this product has proven ideal for our play sessions, and so this is my go-to laser pointer.

It's also worth noting that I used the product our of the box every other night (10 15 min play sessions) for over a month and a half before I needed to use the replacement batteries also included in the box.... and I used those, less frequently, another 4 or so months before I was brought back here to find battery replacements which I'm now discovering seem relatively inexpensive (product uses 3 batteries, and batteries are costing me less than $2 for a 10-pack shipped).

I definitely feel it was worth the $8 I paid for the product. Knowing what I know now, I'd even feel comfortable paying the current Amazon price of $14.

edit: nearly a year later... and noting the price has come down, I'm purchasing another one of these "just in case" through Amazon. We're still using the product almost nightly... and the "jiggly" mode of the laser pointer now has a purpose as she'll sometimes appear a bit bored after about 5 mins or so of play and switching from stable to 'jiggly' mode gets her excited again for the last dozen or so sprints across our living space. Still our go-to toy to get the energy knocked out of her.

Don't buy this thing. It's probably worth about 25 cents. Batteries weakened within minutes of opening package. Had to use a vise grip and pliers to pry open the end to replace batteries. Fortunately I used my Amazon points so it didn't cost me much! Use a leveling laser or power point laser if you want to play with you cat. My cat wasn't even interested!

i usually try to read all the reviews on a product before buying. sorry i didn't do that for this one.

as one reviewer says, the item pictured on amazon isn't the one in the package. that i could kind of deal with. what i can't handle is that it isn't even the item pictured on the package in which the toy arrived.

the toy did contain batteries, but they were pretty much d.o.a. at least the spare batteries are in decent shape.

what's most disturbing, though, is what i actually received. the packaging shows that the toy has a little wheel just above the button. it can be used to change from crazy mode to pointer mode. there are even instructions inside the package showing how to use it. mine arrived in crazy mode and there is no wheel with which to change that. all i can do is turn it on or off.

one other problem is that there is a second, minor beam that appears roughly a foot ahead of the stronger one. it will probably not go away until battery power is low.

i would certainly not suggest that anyone buy this toy. there's no way to know what you'll get.

I purchased this item because of the reviews. When I received it, the light was in crazy mode. Instructions said to roll the mode switch. This is NO mode switch. I also received 3 extra batteries, but I can't get the base to unscrew. Save your money and get the FroliCat BOLT Interactive Laser Pet Toy. I purchased that at the same time, and my cat loves it. It runs for 15 minutes and shuts off. The best part of this toy, is, all I need to do is turn it on.
