Hagen Catit Treat Ball, Blue

Hagen Catit Treat Ball, BlueFirst day: put some treats in. Cat mildly interested, but fairly lazy about it all.

Second day: tried again to get cat interested in it. Interest level increased. Some time playing with toy.

Third day: put new tasty treats in, a whole bunch of them. Cat didn't play with it at all.

Morning of fourth day: Cat apparently spent the night having a treat fiesta with this thing. It is EMPTY and was in an entirely different room down the hall around two corners. I imagine him eating a trail of treats all the way down the hall. We laughed so hard when we found this thing empty. I guess if we don't want him to have a belly full of treats every night, we'd better not fill it up again. LOL

Conclusion: Whoa.

This is a big one! Nearly the size of my cat's head, but he doesn't back down at all. The advantage of this is that I can use it as a feeding ball not just for treats. No more food bowl; he now earns his dinner. *heh*

It has two openings one large for filling and one small for play. You gotta twist the top to switch between the two.

Buy Hagen Catit Treat Ball, Blue Now

My kitty and I love these. It keeps her busy for quite a while, and I especially like that I can change the size of the treat dispensing hole to stretch the time out! They are very hard to find locally, so I order them several at a time. Boogie has learned that she can get more treats out quickly if she bangs them against a wall so she cracks them after about a year.

I ordered this product before my 2 cats are overweight and, after putting them on a diet, they bug us constantly for food. My one cat just loves it. We 've had it for a day and she just caught on that the more she plays with it, the more food comes out. My other cat, however, doesn 't seem interested in working for his food. We also bought a kitty "kong" which is a whole lot bigger than I originally thought. They both played a little with the kong tail (that has catnip in it), but wasn 't really interested after that. One of the bonuses is that this ball is also bigger than I thought. I was worried that it would get stuck under the furniture and they wouldn 't have any food until morning (my one cat eats too fast if she hasn 't had food in a while and throws up), but it 's way too big for that. It 's a great product. It actually arrived 2 business days early, which is great!

We have a very busy Bengal. We like to help him stay busy. Check out the other review of cat toys/products and you'll see what we mean. So, when I say these are *the* best cat treat balls/toys, you can be certain that we've tested/tried lots of them.

What makes it better?

One: The hole size can be adjusted--whether you're using the round hole or the odd-shaped hole. That means you can spin the blue ring around the top to allow just a portion of *either* shaped hole to release the treats; that's very useful if you have different sizes/shapes of kitty goodies. The adjustment is "infinite" meaning that you can slide it to exactly the size you want (the PetSafe EggCersizer, in contrast, has proscribed adjustments and you can't dial in a specific size, only the sizes that "click" in). Note that only one hole on the Hagen Catit Treat Ball is open at a time (unlike some treat ball dispensers which have multiple holes available to be open at the same time). If you have a less motivated cat, one hole may not dole out enough treats to give them the "reward" for their work; but our cat is on the opposite end of the spectrum so we *like* only having one hole at a time releasing treats.

Two: The "screw" mechanism in the middle means the treats don't necessarily just tumble out when the hole is facing down; instead, the cat must roll (with nose, paws) repeatedly to get the kibble down to the hole. I'm not saying our cat is clever enough to purposefully manipulate the ball, but the occasional nature of dropping out the treats means the ball is more of a puzzle and forces the cat to continue playing.

The plastic is rather rugged--I mistakenly once tossed the ball with too much force toward our hardwood floor and it now has a crack under the blue ring but the adjustment works in spite of that.

Again, this is an ideal puzzle ball for a very motivated cat but might be frustrating if your cat is looking for "instant" rewards.
