On the other hand, the scratching pad is quite a deal. The cat uses every day and I simply love that, since she used to scratch my walls and sofa instead. The kit comes with a small bag of catnip and immediately after I spread some of it on the scratching pad the cat started using it.
My very general thoughts on this product are:
1. This is an excellent play house for small and medium-sized cats. Do not buy it if your cat is large. It really won't work.
2. The house comes with four two scratching pads, each have two sides. As I said, I had this play house for 2 weeks and the first pad is still in a working condition. As a result, I think this cat scratching play house will last for at least 6 months which is basically all you can wish from a 20-dollar investment, right?
3. The house itself is very light. As a result, it's not gonna stay in one place unless you find a way to ground it. It doesn't bother me that much, but I almost never find it in the same place I leave it at night. My cat likes to run around the house and jump inside and since it's made of very light material, the cat manages to move the house around my living room quite a lot.
4. As I mentioned, it has a design flow the mouse is actually designed to be inside, hanging in the middle of the root but that doesn't give the cat enough space for scratching as she gets distracted by the mouse.
Overall, I give it 4 stars. My cat (about 12 lbs) took to this even as I was assembling it (WHICH was not as easy as I had hoped. Not that it was difficult to follow, but the little plastic "bolts" are hard to negotiate especially getting them into the bottom panel.)
She started to romp and beat up the little mousy with great zeal and was a bit shocked, as I was, when she leaped on the roof to have it collapse as one of the little bolts went flying.
AS we all know cats like to "be on top of things," so I would suggest to the manufacturer that some sort of roof support be incorporated in the design. An engineer should be able to figure that one out easily.
After her romp, she lay down inside for a little nap. I bought this because a paper box would work just as well, but it's more attractive in my living room than using an Amazon.com delivery carton, which, I might add, she also adores.

Our cat loves this scratch house so much that I can't even describe it with words. I think that speaks for itself. The only problem I found is that the cardboard pieces she scratches off come out with her paw sometimes but it's nothing a vacuum can't clean and it's worth it for the joy the cat has.Read Best Reviews of Cat Scratching Play House Here
Warning this product is unsafe for your pet to play with . There are little plastic snaps that are suppose to hold the item together and these plastic parts pop off. Very dangerous to pets or small children who can choke or get plastic part lodged in their throat. Also this item is not a playhouse,at best it is a cardboard tunnel with a narrow scratching board to go inside. What looks to be windows on the sides of this BOX are extremely small openings , big enough to stick paw and arm into.Admittedly, I do have three very active and rambunctious cats at 1 ½, 10 months, and 5 months of age. But they had this thing collapsed by the first day, and we ended up tossing it on the third. If you have a low level, low activity cat that just likes to scratch and sit around, this might be fine, but as a playhouse for active young cats who like to rough house, it's just not worth the money. We ended up taking a shipping box, cutting some holes in it, and putting a scratch pad inside. They play in that thing every day and so far it has stood up very well, and it was free. This box was not worth $17.00. Nice concept, but not for active kitties.
