Fantasy Pet CMYW Cat Magnet

Fantasy Pet CMYW Cat MagnetMy cats are always walking around the house rubbing their heads on stuff, so when I saw this thing, I imagined them totally loving it (it seemed to be way more satisfying than a wooden coffee table). They investigated it as soon as I took it out of the box, but never caught on to the idea to use it as a grooming tool. The bristles are surprisingly stiff (it leaves scratch marks when I run the back of my hand across the top of it!), so maybe that's why they don't want to use it. They have short hair and it might be too rough for them. They do like to scratch the base of it, however, the whole this is so light in weight that I had to set two of my 5lb handweights on it so it holds still while they scratch. Great idea, bad design.

I've had the cat magnet for about a month. My two cats were intrigued initially. If I put a catnip toy on top of it, they'll play a little bit but as far as them walking through the arch and grooming their fur, it doesn't work. They will both, once in a while, groom their mouths. I also had a hard time snapping this thing in place, so that's another reason for the three stars. I know with cats it's a toss up if they like something but I had high hopes for this product. I'll keep it out though and maybe they will "discover" it once again. UPDATE: I had to give away one of my cats and the remaining female has started using the cat magnet to groom her back and tail, she also nuzzles it with her teeth. She usually goes through it a couple times during the day. I changed my rating from 3 stars to 4.

All five of my cats love to rub their faces against this thing. I ordered one for my parents cats and they love it to. Have seen other friends with it and my cat shelter. Great product for your feline friends.

Why do I say other cats? Because we had this several years ago with two previous cats.

They adored it, and would spend hours rubbing their chins, cheeks and backs on the arch.

I think it must have looked really great, because our big collie/shepherd mix dog would try

to stick her nose under the arch to see what all the fuss was about too!

We have not been able to find this where we live now (and the other one was lost in the move).

Honestly, I will look for this locally before buying it online, because it seems a little

overpriced at the moment (Dec 2011). Not sure if it is a raise for the holidays, or if the costs

went up across the board.

I think our cats would love this sort of like having someone to brush them all the time without

waiting on any humans! Our littlest cat might actually get some brushing in if no one was holding her

and she could walk through the archway herself. (She hates to be brushed or held. She'll tolerate

men holding her, but really hates women! Go figure...)

Anyway, I really believe most people will find that their cat(s) will enjoy this item. I was originally

worried about the bristles poking the cats in the eyes, but it never seemed to happen. (If it did, we

never saw it and the cats never confessed the blunder.)

I bought an identical product from a pet store about 6 years ago. The cats were all over it for 15 minutes, then didn't touch it. We held on to the darn thing, but didn't see much use in keeping it. Then, about two years ago, I was looking at it and noticed a few things. 1) It was full of cat hair and 2) The bristles were starting to get worn out. They were using it! Since then, I've seen them using it to scratch their little chins when no one is available to do it for them. So, just because you don't see them use it, that doesn't mean they aren't when you're not around. After much use, Santa is bringing the kitties a replacement this year. They'll be so happy to see it.
