I purchased this for our kitten, who is now 6 months old and she has just started to really love this thing. I know because she drags her favorite toys and babies to her food bowl and this one is now in the rotation.....This is a plush toy with a velcro tummy-open it up and there is a small buckwheat packet that you warm for 30 seconds in the microwave to give your cat or kitten a little warm companion. I don't know about the calming part, ours tends to shake it to hear the buckwheat roll around and then she lays right up next to it when she is done playing with it. We heat it up at bed time and put it at the end of the bed but our cat also likes to play with it unheated at other times of the day...just hugging on it or carrying it around, so I would say this one is a hit and would also be good for a kitten who misses the warmth of it's littermates or for an older cat. Overall, this one is a hit. Good construction, good price and the kitty loves it.

I have a full grown stray cat I took in, his name is Stashu. He is a spoiled kitty who loves toys!! This is the first toy I bought for him. Its soft, medium sized and something he can snuggle with. My cat enjoys toys of all shapes and sizes variety is healthy & interesting. I keep all of his toys in a plastic container with a lid, I also keep loose catnip in the container. All of his toys, except for the hard plastic ones and this toy, go into the toy chest. Stashu loves this toy so much, it does not need any catnip for him to play with it it is his Lovey , he sleeps with it and it goes with him to the vet too. It does not contain catnip, it does have a pouch that can be heated in the microwave a nice, comforting option to use in the winter when traveling in the carrier. Stashu is a happy, healthy and active 1 year old cat. I highly recommend this toy for all the reasons I mentioned above. Excellent quality toy. My cat has Manx Syndrome; so she has a bad hip on one side. After popping this toy in the microwave for ONLY 30 seconds, I laid it on her hip. She laid very still, and let it stay there. It looked like it was a piece of Heaven for her.

This little critter is very cute, but it is small, like a kitten pillow small. I would say it is about as big as a 4x6 photo. It warns up very nicely, and living in Montana, it is great to put in my little kitties bed to keep him warn during the night. I did not ding the rating based on size, because the description states the size and that it my fault for not reading that. I did want something that was big enough for him to lay on and sleep on, but this works just as well for him to nuzzle his face on. The one star deduction was because the material is a dirt and fur magnet. Even 5 minutes after opening the package and setting it in his bed, it was covered in lint and fur. I wish there would have been more thought into the material used. However, that does not hinder it's effectiveness, and like anything with pets, it is bound to get dirty. For the price of a coffee, it's a great buy for your cat, and if it doesn't work for you, you didn't loose a big investment.
