I decided to take my puppy with me to see his dad in Texas, and the airline requirements were very restrictive-the carrier had to be less than 8.25 inches tall. Online I read reviews from other fliers that said a cloth carrier was the way to go since it could 'squish' under the seat, giving the puppy the max room available.While this carrier is cloth, the boning in it leaves much to be desired. If I had a puppy that was anxious or claustrophobic, I would have been in trouble. It's bad enough being stuck in a small space for 4 hours without much visibility, let alone the space caving in on you. This bag does not have any structure to keep it 'inflated' when zipped up-it naturally 'caves' in the middle even with the poor dog inside! This left my dog with less than the 8.25 inches he would have had-unless he stood up and pushed on the bag!
That said, it had plenty of pockets and space for gadgets without making the bag too bulky, and the bottom is sturdy , so at least he had a platform when I carried him. All in all, the carrier is a glorified duffel bag, not luxurious but it seemed to have enough vents for 'viewing' and pockets for extra stuffs. The zipper top opening zips all the way down one of the long sides-so if the duffel bag is completely unzipped, technically you'd end up with a 3-walled structure-except, of course, that it does not have any structure, so it would just cave in.
If I flew again with the puppy, I may use it again-only so I don't drop another $50 on a carrier, and since he flew so well the first time. But if you think your pup may have trouble flying, I do not recommend this bag-my puppy was great but the bag kept me anxious the whole time, since I was worried that it would make the experience bad for him.
