Ethical Contempo Bella Laser Cat Toy

I was so excited to try this toy out on our cats. They love laser toys, and this, being motion activated, would be able to play with them even while we're out of the house!

However, much like the other reviewer's experience, the motion sensor in our bird never works! I have to manually pick up the toy and flip it upside down for the sensor to toggle on. It's on for only 10 seconds, at which point it turns itself off. If it came on with proper motion sensing, it'd be genius! Our cats have even tried to bonk it and paw at it in hopes of having the light come on to no avail.

If there was a switch that I could manually leave the laser beam on, it'd be somewhat redeemable. But being that I need to manually turn it on every 10 seconds, it's not worth it. (That being said, when it is on, and the bird wobbles around, the cats are SO HAPPY).

Ethical Contempo, please redesign this toy so that it actually works!! It's a great concept!

My cats aren't the brightest little creatures. We blame it on their peanut sized brains and ADD. It took them a little while to figure this toy out, but now that they have its a love affair. The laser is pretty powerful and the bird is made to last. Shortly after my male cat figured out the cause and effect of the motion sensor laser, he began chewing the tail. No bite marks or scratches, not a one. My female cat has mildly caught on, but she seems more amused by the weeble-wooble effect. I left the bird on overnight to occupy the cats, I came out of my room in the morning to find one cat curled up by it and the other intently staring at it in hopes that the laser would turn on. Needless to say, this toy is a winner.

The weighted base keeps the bird moving, yeah. For like 10 seconds. The laser stays on for just about that long, too. (Motion does not activate it either.) Even with this being as inexpensive as it is, I still don't think it's worth the money.

It took about an hour for the cats to figure out how to play with this laser toy by themselves which was the goal but they also like it as an interactive toy. Children seem especially drawn to it.

Some of the other reviews mentioned quality issues. We have not had any if those.

I have two cats, and they LOVE this thing, in fact I'd say it's possibly their favorite toy, with the exception of Da Bird. And I get my cats a lot of toys. (yes I am that crazy cat lady) They play by themselves with this, which is great b/c I can do the hand held laser for awhile, but after about 5 minutes I'm kind of done. I have also tried the "Frolicat"--and my cats liked this a lot better. The Frolicat is great for awhile, til they figure out the pattern. then they get bored and it just sits there.

also love the color of this--the pink is my fav. wish there was a choice here on Amazon--I got mine from a pet store.

I gave this only 4 stars b/c in order to change the battery you have to unscrew 4 tiny little screws recessed in the plastic, and once I did change the battery (two AAs) I think some of the connections got messed up b/c the laser isn't as bright. Obviously this isn't made for the battery to be changed. I guess you're supposed to get a new one? They still love it though.

If the manufacturer made the battery easier to change, and Amazon gave a choice of color, it'd be perfect.
