Trixie Altea Cat Tree (Beige with paw prints)

My kitten Toby loved this tree when we first built it for him. He was going crazy running up and down all levels and playing with the ball. About 2 hrs into his playtime, I heard him crying and hissing. I ran over to find him tangled in the string that the ball is attached to and hanging by it!!! I quickly unwrapped him and realized the string was around his neck and stuck under his claw. His claw was bleeding and he was so scared. I immediately cut the ball of and now he is very afraid of the tree. I suggest to put the ball at a lower level so this does not happen to another cat. I cant imagine what would of happened if I was not home to save him.

This was an excellent tower until 3 weeks after my cat starting playing with it. It fell over with her on it and immediately broke in half where it could not be fixed.

The constrcution is not very sturdy. My kitten weighs only 4 pounds and can almost tip it over. Teh base should be heavier so it doesn't tip.

I read the reviews before purchasing this, so I was prepared to reinforce it before I even got it. I live in a basement apartment and I have those small, rectangle windows near the ceiling. There is one window that I wanted to designate for my cat, but I needed something she could climb on the get up there. I was originally going to put up step shelves, but that turned out to be pretty pricey, and anchoring shelves to hold her weight seemed like a lot of work.

This cat tree was the prefect height and price as an alternative. A tree this tall usually costs $80+. I had decided before even purchasing it that I was going to secure it to the floor with screws. When I received it and assembled it I could definitely see what the other reviewers were talking about. The base is too small to support the height. It is very unstable, so it should DEFINITELY NOT BE USED as a stand alone tree. IT WILL FALL OVER and hurt someone. Even if screwed to the floor, I noticed that the top shelf started becoming loose from being jumped off.

I have it placed against the wall, screwed to the floor, and with an arm chair pressed against it's side. My cat likes to jump from the chair to the top shelf and then to the window. So I took another step by attaching a strap around the top scratching post and screwing it to the wall. The tree does not wobble anymore and it's definitely secure now. At some point I imagine that top shelf will fall off, at which time I plan to contact the manufacturer. I've only had it about a little over a week.

I gave two stars because I knew what I was getting into and it does serve my purpose now that it is screwed to the floor and the wall. Still, a part of me thinks this item should be discontinued because it can clearly injure someone if not secured properly.

UPDATE: After posting this review on another site I was contacted by the manufacturer. They offered me a full refund and allowed me to choose another cat tree from their catalog, which they sent me for free! I asked for the Trixie Malaga cat tree, and it has none of the problems that this cat tree has. I still feel that this cat tree is flawed and should not be sold as is. At least now I know that the company stands behind their product and are willing to make things right. My cat loves her new tree.

this is by far the best price I have found on a cat tree. it is made very well and sturdy. Only one reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the base is not very large which makes the tree a bit wobbly. We just said that we may get a larger piece of wood and attach it to the bottom for added stability. Have not been able to find one this nice for the price it is. My cat is very active and he loves this and it is holding up.
