My kitty once gulped an 18-inch length of string from a similar type of cat toy in the blink of an eye, resulting in the most terrifying week of my life until the string was retrieved from his system and he recovered from treatment. A swallowed string can cause severe or fatal damage in a cat's intestinal system. I no longer would purchase any dangling cat toy.When I saw these on my cat specialist vet's counter, I examined them and could not see anything my kitty would be tempted to rip apart and swallow. The leather strips on the end are more durable than the usual feathers, and the string is a combination of twisted plastic and leather that seem to be firmly attached to the stick and fuzzy end ball.
I am still cautious with my toy choices and play techniques, but I feel a lot better about this toy than anything I've seen in the pet stores. Spritz it with catnip spray if your cat needs a little incentive (or to refresh any cat toy that's become boring).
My only gripe is the toy does not endure the hard play our cats give. We had to super glue the part of the toy where the cable attaches to the stick. The fur pulled apart, then the tassels unraveled. We glued the tassels back and bought a second for when that fails.

I bought one of these Purrfect leather cat teasers from my friend's pet store the day I brought home two six-week old kittens. My male kitten LOVED the first one. I think he likes that he can really sink his teeth into the "mouse". His sister loves the leather cord and tassles. After about 2 1/2 months my male had successfully eaten the "mouse" off the cord (shish-kemouse??). The leather cord and tassles are still fine but the "mouse" is long gone. My husband ended up tying scrap fleece from my blanket-making around the part where the "mouse" used to be. They love this new version too.I found these again on both Amazon & eBay and ordered two more. Boy was my now six month old male excited when I took out one of the replacements. He grabbed hold of it and tries to drag it off. Even though his head is now actually bigger than the mouse it's still pretty darned cute and funny that he still does that. We had to take it away before we went to bed so he wouldn't eat this new mouse right away.
What I really love about this toy (besides how much the kittens love it to death) is that it doesn't have catnip. I get so tired of looking at toys thinking they'd be great for the kittens to play with and finding them laced with catnip. They don't need a constant dose of catnip at their age in order to find toys interesting (if it can be moved with paws and makes noise while its moving...it is interesting). Thank you for making a biting/hunting/stalking/chasing toy that is catnip free!!!!

My cats like the leather strips much better than feathers, but I've had a hard time finding any. These are great. Best part is the cord from the wand to the toy is also made of leather and is reinforced. Young T won't be able to chew through it like he did with the wand toys that use string.The fur is a nice touch too. Overall these are fantastic. I bought three and hope they last a long long time.

My cat is a big boy, maybe even a bit of a fattie (15lbs). Yet he annihilates every new toy i get him within minutes at most, his best record is roughly 20-30 secs.Anyway this is the only toy that has withstood his onslaught of claws and bites. I have two and the first one is still going though in pretty rough shape. he plays HARD and its still perfectly functional.
On the old one I have snapped the plastic part twice (big boy) and its come apart where the leather and plastic connect. Some superglue fixed that right up and though its shorter. again its still perfectly functional.
This will be the only "string" toy I ever buy him, the leather is the only thing durable enough to take it from mah kitteh.
