I just brought this for my cat, $1.99 at the grocery store and she just looked a me as if to say, "You don't expect me to really play with this"? She then promptly ignored it and is now playing with her old stand by toy, a piece of muslin that I fill with about a 1/2 tablespoon of catnip and tie with a long string. This she will chew on for hours and chase it like crazy when I dangle and drag the it around the house. We call this her mousie and she loves the chase and hide and seek game.

The reason my cat may not like the ball is that it is very hard and she can't pick it up in her mouth. My cat is an indoor/outdoor cat and hunts a lot so she is used to the real thing along with the toys I make for her. This piece of plastic my not have have any reality for her or any real cat appeal. Even with the Catnip in it she still just sees it as a piece of hard plastic. It seems to be too hard for a cat or any animal toy really. They can't chew on it, so now I see that it could hurt her teeth if she tried to bit it. Would you chew on a piece of hard plastic? This is not a good animal toy.

So the idea is that the ball is filled with catnip and the cat can bat it around having fun playing with this toy as it skitters across the floor. One bat and the ball came apart and all the capnip came out. The cat was occupied rolling around in the catnip for a few minutes. Then he chased half the ball around until it got caught under the furniture. The catnip that comes with this product is in a little zip close type bag. It must be good stuff because the cat then turned his attention to the garbage can where I disposed of the packaging. He made a mess of himself and the garbage so I took out the packaging and put it on the floor where he then played with the packaging for a few minutes. I don't think this is a very good product although based on the reaction I think this may contain high quality catnip. The toy does not stay together with or without the catnip. Once broken apart it appears that only half the toy is fun to play with. I have not yet seen the cat have fun for hours as described on the package. This is more of a 5 minute distraction followed by a 10 minute clean up.

I purchased the Our Pets Go Cat Go Butterfly Ball and was disappointed in how it was made. The design itself was interesting for my cats, but the two pieces were not manufactured correctly and would NOT stay together. This ball is supposed to hold catnip and with it not staying closed, it made a catnip mess. I would not recommend this ball.

The butterfly ball. My cat loves this toy so much, the only way she stops playing with it is when she finally knocks it someplace her little paws can't reach. Kinda the point of why I'm buying it againI have no idea where she put it this time. Unfortunately I'm also having a hard time finding it in stores, I've bought this toy several times (because of it simply disappearing) and I've never had (nor been warned about) any of the issues that I see people commenting on.

My best guess with the ball popping open so easily is that it wasn't closed properly, the wings should be perpendicular to each other and it will make a very noticeable snap when it locks closed, after that you can step on that sucker with hiking boots (personal experience) and it will. not. open.

Now I have had differences in the quality of catnip in the provided bag, I will give the haters that, but I also have a pouch of the stuff on hand because, well, I own a cat. Catnip just seems like something to have on hand? Also, I stuff that sucker full, like put as much into both halves and snap the ball closed while inside the catnip pouch.

There's also something to be said about knowing your pet. Mine? Doesn't really go for the soft fuzzy toys, dunno why, all I know is the softer it is the quicker she'll lose interest. Instead, she loves things that'll skitter across the floor or click-clack on the linoleum (and by far she plays with this more on the hard floors). Her favorite toy before I found these guys were those plastic rings you get from the caps on milk jugsthese are kind of essentially the same thing, they clatter when dropped, skitter across the floor with flick of the paw, and kinda jump weird when they hit something just right, but then they also have the ability to hold catnip so they hit a whole new level of playtime-fun.

I'm also going to toss on here that she's 13 years old (that's solidly in the 'mature' category in cat years) and this has been really good on getting her up and about, she's like a kitten again with this toy.
