Cat Craft 124003 3-Tier Cat Climbing Tree

Cat Craft 124003 3-Tier Cat Climbing TreeI bought this tree for two reasons. First, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a hinky piece of cat furniture not knowing if my cat would show any interest in one and second the reviews were pretty good for the very low price of the product. After my experience I have no idea why others found this tree to be even close to acceptable quality. This item is only a relative approximation of the shape of a cat tree. The support tubes are, under layers of carpet and cardboard, plastic. If they were PVC that would be fine but this is a very soft plastic. The tree is assembled with threaded studs which fit into bolts embedded in the ends of the plastic tubes. Now I'll bet your thinking I over tightened the sections and wrenched the bolts out of the plastic but you would be wrong; after seeing the delicate nature of the connections I treated them very carefully. The problem: you can't stand the tree upright without the bolts pulling out under the weight of the assembled tree. Once the thing is upright you still need to adjust the spring pole which fits against the ceiling and every time the tree is moved it becomes more wobbly. The whole situation is very comedic. I did find out my cat likes to climb but the tree is wickedly unstable with one 14 pound Bengal on it and the shelves are pretty darn small. I expect the entire thing to be on the ground when I get home tomorrow. Unless you want to do an interest test like me or your cat is a 5 pounder I would opt for a higher quality product.

i bought this at wallmart for 39.00. good product for that price point. i would not spend more for it. very very simple assembly if you dont have to use the extension piece for ceilings over 8 feet which i didn't. secure, wobbles a tiny bit with 3 cats racing up and down it at the same time. the carpet is very low end and does not cover the underside of the shelves. for what i paid for it however, it is a great deal. when the carpet wears i may consider wrapping the poles with sisal and replacing the carpet on the shelves. this would be an easy project.

Buy Cat Craft 124003 3-Tier Cat Climbing Tree Now

Bought it at Walmart 3 years ago and now I am getting ready to get the same kind as a replacement. It withstood a LOT of abuse from my two cats, so I consider 3 years an accomplishment. My cats love it, they race up and down, hang off of it, and even though it wobbles, the spring has kept it stable and secure the whole time. The carpet padding survived more than two years of heavy scratching and only within the last half a year it started to tear. It is definitely worth the money.

Want Cat Craft 124003 3-Tier Cat Climbing Tree Discount?

I bought a couple of these about 3 years ago at Wal-Mart for approx. $40 each, and I've been quite satisfied with them, considering the low cost. My cats love them. They climb up and down them several times a day, which is good exercise for indoor cats. Occasionally, I move them around the house, and the cats love it when they are in a new spot. They are light enough for me to move them without any help, so that's good. I had a little bit of trouble putting the pieces together, but I must admit, I don't tend to be good at that sort of thing. Still, I was able to accomplish it without too much fuss.

Someone recommended gluing a little rubber furniture cup to the top of the pole to protect your ceilings, and that might be a good idea. I have a couple of marks on my ceilings, but nothing drastic, and like I said, they have gotten a LOT of daily use in the past 3 years. Also when I bought it, Cat Craft did supply a small piece of wood for this purpose. At one point, I called the manufacturer to ask for an extension pole, and they were very nice about it.

If I were to make one request of the manufacturer, it would be this: Please offer a version in Sisal or something similar. And it would be great if the carpet colors were more muted. Also, the design would be better if the carpeting went all around the bottom of each step, because you can see the bare wood underneath. But if you put it in an out-of-the-way corner of your house, that wouldn't be a major issue, especially considering that the price is so reasonable compared to other types of cat trees.
