Play-N-Squeak Tail Spin Motorized Cat Toy 5" diameter x 4.5" height

Play-N-Squeak Tail Spin Motorized Cat Toy 5' diameter x 4.5' heightI bought this toy at Petco for $38, because my kitten became an adult and I wanted him to continue his boyish playing bouts. He is not an extremely energetic cat, but he will have some bursts at times. Make sure you follow the (very simple) instructions which tell you the sequence of operation. On the side of the toy is a button, underneath is a slider switch that you set to "play", then push the button and the mouse tail starts swishing and teasing from the slat underneath. If you don't slide the switch to "play", the device will still work when you push the button but only for a short demo.It lasts for 7 minutes and then it turns off. You can reactivate it by pushing the button again, or you can turn it off in mid-play by pushing the button if your cat is done playing. My cat was interested for 3 to 4 rounds (approx 20-25 minutes), and even when he was done chasing the tail, he lay next to it watching it intently.

It also has a little mouse hanging in the knothole of the tree, and after you remove the plastic strip to activate the battery, it squeaks when batted around. It's a great idea, but-although he does like toy mice, my cat had no interest in it. I think the hole is too small and the mouse hangs too much in the back of it. It also needs some Hulk-like batting to produce a squeak. Cats don't see stationary things close-up very well, so if the mouse would also move in and out of the tree hole once in a while(and squeak?), it would work better. Maybe an idea for the manufacturers? That is the only reason why I ONLY gave the Play-N-Squeak 4 stars. Otherwise, the toy is well-made and sturdy, but could use some anti-slip pads on the bottom. The tiny scratch pad on top was a good afterthought, but my cat had no interest in it and prefers a bigger scratch area.
