Neko Flies Kattipede (Centipede) with Rod

Neko Flies Kattipede with RodThis is a a well designed, well thought and high quality product. My cat absolutely loves it, and has had a lot of fun chasing it around. Here are my thoughts about this product.

Quality: The quality of the rod, thread and the toy are all the best I've seen in cat toys. The toy is sturdy and well put together. The 'legs' are stretchy bits of elastic, and they show no signs of coming off or breaking. It has to be seen how they perform with age, but I can see that it is far superior to some other toys that fell apart in a couple of days. The legs and segmented body are designed well to stimulate the cat's interest.

Rod and string: The string is part of the toy end, and attaches to the rod by a hook. I think this is good design, as I have had strings breaking off rods, which makes the rod useless. In this case, the string comes with the attachment, which means broken strings are not a big liability (but the string doesn't look like it is going to break at all). This also means that there are fewer metal parts on the toy itself, making it safer for your pet. The rod is longer than most, but not very long. The string is about twice as long as the rod. It works great when standing up, but this ratio makes it difficult to maneuver the toy while sitting down due to the slack in the rope. I fold the rope in the middle and tie a knot to make it easier.

Safety: The toy is sturdy and doesn't look like it will break easily. After using it, I am not concerned about the legs breaking of and my cat eating it. However, it is always a good idea to use these toys only under supervision, especially with small kittens.

A note about playing with cat toys: I have seen many reviews about toys of this kind stating that their cat didn't care much for the toy. Sure, some toys may just not work with some cats. But it is also possible that you are not playing properly with the toy. This toy is designed to behave like an insect and must be used like an insect. If you dangle the toy back and forth in front of your cat, chances are your cat will ignore it completely, and probably even get annoyed. But if you try placing some boxes and random objects around the room, and make the toy hide behind a box, you might see your cat become curious and approach the toy. Wiggle the toy a bit and your cat will hide behind a box and prepare to attack. When your cat makes a move, quickly slide the toy around to another object and hide behind it. When your cat begins to chase, dart away for some time, before letting your cat catch it. Soon, both you and your cat will be having a lot of fun, and you will never do the "dangling back and forth" again. Cats need to stalk, hunt, chase and kill their prey. Use the toy to satisfy that need. Sometimes I hide the toy completely behind some object, with only a couple of feet showing. I wiggle the toy a bit, and my cat gets really focused, positioning behind a box and planning an attack. You could have five dogs playing with catnip balls on the other side of the room, and my cat would never notice it. That is the effect you want to create with these toys, and the kattipede is one of the best at making that happen.

I saw this product on the tv show, My Cat from Hell and liked how the rope doesn't tangle. My cats love this toy!

My cats both love these teaser toys. Only criticism I have is I wish the rod part was a little longer to balance out the longer string, but basically I love these toys and they get played with daily at our house.

Even our older , less playful cat interacted with this toy. The one year old wents nuts! Great idea to be able to switch out different attachments.
