Some reviews for other Durapet bowls say the rubber bottom flakes if washed in the dishwasher, and that might be true if you put them in the bottom rack. I put mine in the top rack, and I have had no problems. Some of the bowls I bought in 2007 are still in great shape, and I also have a bunch of 12 oz bowls that I bought in 2009 that look just as good.
I won't feed my pets from plastic, much of which is made from melamine, and these stainless bowls are great. Highly recommended.I've been using these dishes for months now to replace the plastic bowls I was using previously. One of my two cats was developing a weird rash on his lip area and I read that could be caused by the plastic getting into his food. The rash is gone now but I can't swear it had anything to do with changing dishes. But I don't use plastic dishes for my own food so why risk it for the cats? Both the cats and I are very happy with these dishes. The non-slip bottom is great. I wash them by hand every day. I don't know if they are dishwasher safe or not but it doesn't matter to me as they are so easy to clean with a sponge or brush. The 16oz is the perfect size to leave a day's supply of dry food and more than ample for some canned food at dinner. I cannot think of a down-side to buying these. I imagine as they are stainless steel they will last forever.Easy to clean daily, moveable only by my 85# mutt when she is cleaning up for Mommy. I wish I had bought these long ago. This cat dish is very easy to clean. The coating on the bottom keeps the dish from sliding around. Buy two!
